CREST Scholar, Brenda Yu, Looks Forward to Internships After Graduation

April 8, 2019

Graduating senior, Brenda Yu, looks forward to a busy summer. After earning her B.S. in Biological Sciences at UC Merced in May, Brenda will participate in two internships: the Kaiser Permanente LAUNCH Internship and JGI/UCM Distinguished Undergraduate Student Summer Internship.

"Through KP LAUNCH, Kaiser Permanente offers young adults a variety of paid internship opportunities in our Oakland headquarters and medical offices across Northern California. Our interns have the opportunity to work for an industry leader on projects that matter." -https://kplaunch.kaiserpermanente.org/

"The mission of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Joint Genome Institute (JGI), a DOE Office of Science User Facility of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and part of the Biosciences Area, is to advance genomics in support of the DOE missions related to clean energy generation and environmental characterization and cleanup. Supported by the DOE Office of Science, the JGI unites the expertise at Berkeley Lab, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. Located in Walnut Creek, California, the JGI is operated by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy and the facility provides integrated high-throughput sequencing, DNA design and synthesis, metabolomics and computational analysis that enable systems-based scientific approaches to these challenges." -https://jgi.doe.gov/about-us/

Currently, Brenda Yu is a member of the Ghosh lab at UC Merced where she worked on a new type of nano-material: gold nanoclusters.
