On April 11, 2017, 75 students from Merced, California in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade participated in fun and engaging STEM activities (Merced Sun Star video clip) on the campus of UC Merced, hosted by the NSF-CREST CCBM, with participation from CCBM affiliates and other UC Merced staff and graduate students.

Students participated in lab tours in CCBM faculty laboratories including Drs. Victor Muñoz, Sayantani Ghosh, Kara McCloskey, Bin Liu, and Tao Ye. Graduate students led hands-on demonstrations and explorations that were managed by Dr. Donna Jaramillo-Fellin. The young scientists and engineers were treated to a pizza lunch, then got to see how liquid nitrogen ice cream is made and to test it out!
